The island boasts of almost 70 different species of colourful coral reefs and more than 700 species of fishes and other aqua creatures. Some of the creatures that you can spot during various water activities are Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, snappers, barracudas, jacks, sweetlips, hammerheads, grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, manta rays, turtles, frogfish, triggerfish, surgeonfish, trevallies, etc.

There are many sports that you can try, most popular being snorkelling and scuba diving. The island has some the dive sites in the world to offer its tourists with such as Lion's Head, Kudu Haa, Girifushi Thila, Middle Point, Nassimo Thila, Okobe Thila, Sunlight Thila, Maldives Victory and Banana Reef. Not just these, even for surfing the island present suitable environment. You can find best of the surf breaks in North and South Male’ Atoll. The average size of reef breakers is 4-5 feet which rises up to 8-10 feet during the surf monsoon. The best time to go for these is between the months of May and October.

You can also go for fishing and catch some exotic fishing. There are varied kinds of the same like big games fishing and night fishing. Some of the common catches during fishing are Sailfish, swordfish, marlin, wahoo, barracuda, yellow fin tuna, etc. Going for sailing can also be interesting and present you with an experience worth remembering. If you want a relaxed time you can go for catamaran sailing and a refreshing experience and on the other hand for some excitement you can go for parasailing.

Along with these there are many other water sports as well to entertain you. Some of these are water skiing, wake boarding, knee boarding, banana riding, catamaran rides, speed boating, fun tubes, mono skiing, kite surfing, glass bottom boat, jet skiing and many more.
